Regional Definition of Russia, CIS & Central Europe
These regions previously comprised the so-called Soviet bloc, which was forced to abandon the command model of economic management in the 1980s and to adopt more open policies.
The chemical industries had previously been developed and harmonised through Comecon, and much of the old system and communist marketplace had to be gradually dismantled before more free market policies could take effect.
After two decades of some success and progress, quite a few bankruptcies and plant closures, we are entering a phase of large-scale investment in Russia and the CIS whilst in Central Europe the merger & acquistion activity has opened up new opportunities for the chemical industry.
